Ancestral Slate – 826Ra

A fine‑grained, foliated, and homogeneous metamorphic rock formed from shale‑based sedimentary material such as clay or volcanic ash. Through prolonged heat and pressure, it develops a tightly layered structure and a dense, uniform composition. Mica minerals within the stone create a subtle surface sheen, giving each split face a gentle lustre and a smooth, refined touch despite its natural texture. The overall appearance can be further influenced by the chosen mortar colour—whether a dark tone to create contrast and definition, or a lighter shade for a softer, more blended finish—allowing the final look to be tailored to the desired aesthetic. Our natural Random Stone Cladding Slips are cut from traditional facing stone to a thickness of 15-30mm, retaining the authentic stone face in the random build style. Random slips consist of largely square-edged stones of varying heights and lengths, with some irregular pieces for character.
